Top 10 Cricket films in Bollywood

There have been very few films in India which are based on any kind of sports. One name that comes to mind is Jo Jeeta Vahi Sikandar and many many years before that Naya Daur, where it is a matter of life and death when Dilip Kumar races a horse carriage against a bus which is threatening to ruin their livelihood. There have also been a few which are based on the biggest sport in the country- Cricket. it is a well known fact that cricket and Bollywood has had a lover’s relationship, literally. After the world cup 2011 final win, there have been so many stories floating about cricketers dating Bollywood starlets.

1. Kai Po Che! (2013):
Recently to join the list of cricket inspired movies is Kai Po Che! The film is based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, The 3 Mistakes of My Life. The film is about three best friends who open a sports shop and cricket academy. They find a talented local kid who they train vigorously, who eventually become part of the Indian national cricket team.

2. Awwal Number (1990):
This film stars Dev Anand and Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan plays the role of a cricketer in the film who is hated by a senior cricketer (Aditya Pancholi).

3. Hattrick (2007):
Hattrick revolves around a woman (Rimi Sen) who is obsessed with cricketers which annoys her husband (Kunal Kapoor) no end.

4. Victory (2009):
This film starring Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao may have bombed at the box office but was noted for special appearances by several cricketers from India, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

5. Dil Bole Haddipa (2009):
This film stars Rani Mukherji and Shahid Kapoor. Rani became the first actress to play cricket onscreen with this film. The film revolves around a young village girl who pretends to be a man to join an all-male cricket team.

6. Patiala House (2011):
This film starring Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma is loosely based on the life of cricketer Monty Panesar. The film is about a cricket loving Indian British boy whose love for cricket causes conflict with his father.

9. Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii (2007)
It stars Zain Khan and Rahul Bose as the lead protagonists. The film’s title is taken from lines spoken by Amitabh Bachchan’s character in the 1982 film Satte Pe Satta. It is based on the Hollywood movie Like Mike in which a young boy of 13 finds sneakers once belonging to Michael Jordan.

It revolves around a group of 4 boys and their passion for the game.
