Serena targets Austrian comeback
Serena Williams will return to action in the Generali Ladies Linz tournament in Austria next week.
The American, who has lost her world number one ranking to Caroline Wozniacki, has been absent since suffered a cut foot three months ago.
The 29-year-old reportedly suffered the injury at a restaurant following her Wimbledon success and required an operation that kept her out of the US Open.
She returned to practice in September but twice put off her comeback, withdrawing from the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and this week’s China Open in Beijing.
Williams, who has already done enough in just six tournaments this season to qualify for the WTA Tour Championships, has also made herself available for the US Fed Cup team to face Italy on November 6-7.
