Zvonareva beats Pervak to win Baku Cup:Latest tennis news that Vera Zvonareva won her second title of the year and 12th of her career when she defeated Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Russian final at the Baku Cup on Sunday.
Seventh-seeded Pervak was playing her first career WTA tour final and despite the defeat is expected to break into the top 50 when the new rankings are published on Monday.
Zvonareva made a perfect start with a break in the opening game. Pervak then received attention to a right toe injury after conceding another break at 2-0. She got on the scoreboard at 4-1, but two straight double-faults handed Zvonareva a third break and the set.

The second was more competitive. A break for 3-1 put the top-seeded Zvonareva in control, but Pervak recovered the break in the seventh, dropped her own, then broke back once more.

Ksenia Pervak looks like a player to watch. She had a really good Wimbledon and has beaten plenty of high ranking players like Goerges and Petkovic this year. She might achieve her dream of making the top 10 in the rankings if she can avoid the niggling injuries she seems a bit prone to.
