BCCI announced Pepsi as the title sponsors for the sixth edition of Indian Premier League, the governing council of IPL, also confirmed that the players auction will be held at Chennai or Kolkata on 3rd February 2013.

IPL CEO Sundar Raman on Friday announced that the players’ auction for Pepsi IPL, the sixth edition of the cash rich league would be held on Feb 3, 2013. IPL CEO Sundar Raman tweeted on his micro-blogging site stating that the players would go under the hammer on Feb 3, 2013 but the venue has not been decided yet.

“Pepsi IPL auction on 3rd Feb,” @ramansundar tweeted on Friday.

“Pepsi IPL 4th Apr @RCBtweets will host @mipaltan in bengaluru in the 2nd match of 2013 season,” CEO of IPL Sundar Raman tweeted.

IPL 5 champions Kolkata Knight Riders take on Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural clash on Apr 3, 2013. Earlier a source had said that the auction for the sixth edition of IPL would be held on Jan 12 at Chennai and at Kolkata eight days after the event in Chennai. Franchises had submitted the initial squads for Pepsi IPL in the first week of Nov, 2012.

The franchises will have a salary cap upto Rs. 12.5 million to spend on the squad for the sixth edition of IPL (upto 33 players which includes 11 overseas players) With 179 players’ contracts extended, IPL 6 auction early next year would see more players getting an opportunity to play the lucratic league.

PepsiCo, the title sponsors of IPL won the bid of Rs 396.8 crore for the next five years earlier. PepsiIPL is expected to be played between April 3 and May 26, 2013.

According to sources, players auction is all set to be held on Jan 12, 2013 at Chennai or eight days later in Kolkata, as the governing council headed by Rajeev Shukla discussed about the auction on Wednesday. It is also learnt that Kings XI Punjab have decided to pay a penalty of Rs 1 crore to BCCI in order to sort out the issues between the board and the franchise as they had dragged them to the court after the contract was terminated for alleged breach of regulations.

“Kings XI have sorted out their differences with BCCI by deciding to pay the penalty,” a source said.

After Sialkot Stallions’ participation in the Champions League T20, Pakistan cricketers’ participation in the sixth edition will even be decided in the governing council meeting before the auction. Pakistan cricketers haven’t played the cash-rich IPL since 2008, after the Mumbai terror assaults.
