Tennis starlet Robson brands rivals as ‘sluts’

British tennis star Laura Robson sparked off controversy on Sunday, when she branded rivals on the circuit as “sluts who go with every guy”.

“They go with every guy and make such a bad name for themselves – and you don’t want to be known for stuff like that. You want to be more discreet,” the Daily Express quoted 16-year-old Laura as telling the Vogue magazine in an interview.

Laura told how she prefers the quiet life – and usually has an early night after training at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Paris. Although she sometimes feels she is missing out when her friends are partying, Laura insisted she would much rather concentrate on tennis.

The 5ft 11in player, who won the junior Wimbledon title in 2008, said: “We’re tucked in by 10pm. My coach knows I’m sensible. I don’t like the taste of alcohol and I hate smoke. Some go to nightclubs, but I’m not interested.” Laura has confessed to having a crush on retired Russian player Marat Safin, whom she once pretended to a journalist was her date to the Junior Wimbledon dinner.

She said: “He’s phenomenally good-looking. But he’s old – he’s 30.” Laura, who was born in Australia but has lived in Britain since she was six, speaks about her career in the July edition of the magazine.
