International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the schedule for ICC Tournaments 2013 to 2023. ICC has made it compulsory for every test-playing country to play minimum 16 Test matches in each four-year cycle in order to balancing the three formats of the game.
ICC has confirmed that Champions Trophy 2013 was the last edition of this tournament and will now be replaced by the ICC World Test Championship that will start from 2017 onwards. The World Test Championship will be held in England in June-July 2017 and between February-March at India in 2021.
Also Men Twenty20 world cup will also be held only once in every four years instead of the current two years interval after 2016. The 2016 and 2020 editions of World Twenty20 will be held at India and Australia respectively. The 50 over World Cup will be held at England in 2019 and again in India in 2023.
U19 World Cup will now be the only tournament to be held once in every two years. The locations selected for U19 World Cups are Bangladesh (2016), New Zealand (2018), South Africa (2020) and at West Indies in 2022.
The ICC Women’s Committee chairperson Clare Connor is delighted with the governing body’s International Development Board (IDI) for approving six global women’s tournaments between 2016 and 2023. The Women’s World Cup will be held at England in 2017 and at New Zealand in 2021. Women’s World Twenty20 has also been confirmed to be organized in West Indies (2018) and South Africa (2022).
England and India were announced as venues for the first two editions of the World Test Championship in June-July 2017 and February-March 2021 as also for the 2019 and 2023 World Cups respectively. India will also host the 2016 World Twenty20. So clearly India has emerged as a favorite place of ICC for organizing major ICC tournaments.
