KARACHI: Pakistan blasted their way into the final of the mens volleyball event of the 11th South Asian Games when they defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the semifinal held in Dhaka on Wednesday.
In the first set, a tough fight was witnessed with both sides struggling hard to take the lead. However, the last editions bronze medallists Pakistan managed to lift it with 26-24 to take a 1-0 lead.
In the next set, the Greenshirts prevailed throughout and enhanced the lead to 2-0 by winning the set 25-19. In the third set, Pakistan played in a relaxed manner as Sri Lanka got an edge. Sensing danger, Pakistan players fought back to take the set 25-19, wrapping up the match 3-0.
Pakistan, who were placed in Pool B with Nepal, Maldives and Bangladesh, have not lost any match so far.
In their first group match, Pakistan beat Nepal 3-0, followed by their 3-1 victory against hosts Bangladesh and a 3-0 against Maldives. They will play India in the final on Thursday (today).
