Pakistan’s Syed Ali Mujtaba Bukhari won the 24th Asian Junior Individual Squash Championship 2013 which was held at Jordan on 30 June 2013. He won this title by defeating the favorite for the tournament and the local hero Ahmad Al-Saraj 4-11, 11-9, 11-7, 8-11, 14-12 in the boys under-19 final. It proved to be the longest match of the event as it lasted for 109 minutes. Ali Bukhari has emerged as a new icon for many young squash lovers and is now being considered as one of the favorite for the World Junior Championship.
Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, who is also the President of Pakistan Squash Federation congratulated Ali Bukhari for winning Gold Medal in the Asian Junior Squash Championship and urged all the players to keep doing the handwork and make Pakistan proud. Pakistani Squash team consisted of 4 boys and 2 girls. From which Ali Bukhari stood first, Bilal Zakir was fourth, Ammad Fareed finished seventh, and Tayyab Aslam was 23rd. In girls under-17 category Sadia Gul stood fourth and Madina Zafar finished eight.
Bukhari had ended up as a runner-up at the last edition of the Asian junior championship. With the Asian title in hand,Jamshed Gul (Coach) is now getting ready to prepare players for the World Junior Individual Championship.
Jamshed Gul siad:
“We’ve got several days left before the mega event and as soon as the team returns, we’ll start preparing for the world championship.”
It is also very important to highlight the efforts of the coach Jamshed Gul. Since his appointment he has taken the skills of all the player to a new level and continues to do more effort. Pakistan had managed to win Asian Seniors team championship, Asian Junior team championship, Asian senior individual championship and the Asian Junior Individual championship.
