Olympic 2012 ticket sales enter third round

They are being offered to the 700,000 applicants who had all or part of their ticket requests met in the first-round sale which closed in April. This sale runs from 8 July at 6am to 17 July at 6pm. The tickets cover 58 sessions and 130 price categories.

London 2012, who have sold over 3.5m tickets so far from around 850,000 applications, said all other sports have no availability. The chairman Lord Coe told the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday there had been inevitable disappointment from the “phenomenal and unprecedented” demand for Olympic seats. Reporting on the progress of next year’s Games to the IOC session in Durban, South Africa, he said: “Both domestically and internationally the demand for tickets has been phenomenal.

“I would actually say it has been unprecedented – 1.9m people applied for 22m tickets. We have 6.6m to distribute. We have sold out in 23 out of 26 sports, that’s an extraordinary vote of confidence in Olympic sport, not just in Britain but around the globe. “We promised full venues and affordable prices. There has been disappointment, with that level of demand it is inevitable.”

The 1.5m football tickets include men’s and women’s matches at Wembley, the City of Coventry Stadium, the Millennium Stadium, Hampden Park, St James’ Park and Old Trafford. Volleyball sessions are based at Earls Court, while the freestyle wrestling will be staged at Excel. Another major round of ticket sales will take place in early 2012.
