The UFC presents its third annual event on FUEL TV this Tuesday, headlined by an intriguing title eliminator bout for the featherweight division. The UFC returns to Fuel TV on May 15 with a stacked card from Fairfax, Virginia, that features Chan Sung Jung, known by many as “The Korean Zombie,” against Dustin Poirier, in what should be a highly entertaining featherweight scrap that could have serious title implications.
Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung square off in the evening’s main event to determine who earns a title fight with current 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.
The main card kicks off when grizzled veteran Jason MacDonald takes on the always entertaining Tom “The Filthy Mauler” Lawlor in a middleweight scrap. At 135 pounds, Yves Jabouin looks to make it three wins in a row after dropping down from the featherweight division when he meets a talented grappler in Jeff Hougland.
In a bout that has “show stealer” written all over it, Jeremy Stephens takes on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a match up that promises fireworks. Fight before the feature bout, former “The Ultimate Fighter” winner Amir Sadollah takes on Jorge Lopez in a fight that all but promises a ton of action on the feet.
Dustin Poirier first truly made his presence known to mixed martial arts fans at UFC 125, when he cruised to a unanimous decision against the highly regarded Josh Grispi. At the time, Grispi was on the short list of contenders expected to challenge for Jose Aldo’s 145-pound belt. While Grispi has faded from that conversation, Poirier has continued his ascent through the division, racking up four wins in as many UFC appearances.
The UFC’s featherweight division is becoming curious indeed, with Hatsu Hioki passing up a title shot against Aldo because he felt he was not adequately prepared. That has put some of the younger talent in the weight class, like Eric Koch, who will face Aldo at UFC 149, on a faster track to the championship than originally expected. That youthful and talented group includes both Poirier and Jung, either of whom could be next in line with an impressive performance in the UFC on Fuel TV 3 main event.
Poirier is good enough to bang with Jung standing, but the higher percentage approach is to tire him out with takedowns and ground-and-pound. As “The Korean Zombie” wears down, Poirier capitalizes with a submission in the third frame.

UFC On FUEL TV:
FUEL TV is home to more Ultimate Fighting Championship programming than any network has ever offered including live fights, weigh-ins, preliminary bouts, pre- and post-fight shows, specials, and the UFC’s official news and information show, “UFC Tonight”. As UFC President Dana White has put it, “If you’re a fan of the UFC, you’ve got to have FUEL TV.”
Will a victory by Poirier put him next in line for a shot at Jose Aldo’s UFC belt. The 23-year-old prospect sure seems to think so.
“If I can finish the Zombie or beat him decisively, let’s see what happens,” said Poirier about a potential shot at the title “Whatever the UFC thinks.”

The main card of UFC on Fuel TV 3: Korean Zombie vs Poirier:
Chan Sung Jung (12-3, 2-0 UFC) vs. Dustin Poirier (12-1, 4-0 UFC)
The 23-year-old Poirier is undefeated in his UFC career, but he’s not quite a household name mostly because he’s been featured on undercards against opponents who were just as unknown as he was. The “Korean Zombie” is his first true test against a well-established, well-known UFC veteran.
He can finally make a name for himself with a victory, as Sung Jung is a talented brawler who got his nickname due to his relentless offense and granite chin. Poirier has the clear advantage if this one goes to the ground, and Sung Jung is going to want to keep this one standing.
Theres’s a lot at stake in this battle, as the winner could get Jose Aldo up next.
The Pick: Poirier’s best chance is a victory by submission, and Sung Jung have never been defeated in that fashion. I see Sung Jung keeping this one standing, utilizing his furious pace on offense to notch a quick knockout. Sung Jung by first-round knockout.
Donald Cerrone (17-4, 4-1 UFC) vs. Jeremy Stephens (20-7, 7-6 UFC)
It’s hard to be a UFC fan and not love Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone. His exciting pace made him a fan favorite since his knockout victory over Charles Oliveira and submission of Denis Siver, and he has a great chance of bouncing back from his loss to Nate Diaz on Dec. 30, 2011, by stepping into the octagon with 25-year-old striker Jeremy Stephens.
There’s no question this is going to be a standup war. While Stephens has the power advantage, there’s no doubt that Cerrone will throw far more punches. The volume of significant strikes that Cerrone lands in a given fight will usually give him the advantage if a fight goes to a judge’s scorecard, and that’s how I see this one going.
The Pick: Cerrone by unanimous decision
Amir Sadollah (5-3, 5-3 UFC) vs. Jorge Lopez (11-2, 0-1 UFC)
Lopez’s counterpunching style didn’t earn him many fans in his loss to Justin Edwards in Sept. of 2011, and there’s no question he went back to the drawing board to evaluate his style following that fight.
His best chance against Sadollah will likely be to work his superior wrestling and takedowns to get the fight to the mat, where he can rock Sadollah with a ground-and-pound attack.
In my view, Sadollah is essentially a gatekeeper in the welterweight division at this point in his career, as the 31-year-old has struggled when he steps up in competition. His matchup against the up-and-coming 23-year-old Lopez will be a good benchmark for both fighters to see if they are pretenders or contenders.
The Pick: Lopez uses his superior wrestling to take the fight to the mat, where he earns a knockout by utilizing a vicious ground-and-pound attack. Lopez by second-round knockout.
Yves Jabouin (17-7, 2-1 UFC) vs. Jeff Hougland (10-4, 1-0 UFC)
Hougland hasn’t been defeated in seven years, but he’s running into a beast of a competitor in Jabouin. This one could be over fast, as Jabouin has an extremely effective standup game that includes a loaded arsenal of punishing front kicks, devastating elbows and brutal right hooks that can floor even the toughest opponent.
The Pick: Jabouin by third round-knockout
