The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary, Asif Bajwa has resigned from his designation due to the national hockey team’s continuous failures in different tournament. The former Olympian Asif Bajwa has submitted his resignation letter to the Executive Board of the Federation during the board’s meeting.
“Asif Bajwa resigns PHF Secretary over Team failure”
This situation built-up due to the Pakistan national hockey team’s failure to qualify for the FIH World Cup for the first time since 1971. Pakistan desperately needed to win the Asia Cup 2013 which was organized earlier this month to qualify for the next year’s FIH World Cup but failed to do so. The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is heavily under criticism from the public and the former national hockey players for the consistent bad performance of the team.
Asif Bajwa said:
“I resign over the latest team failure. But I must say that it was through our efforts that Pakistan earned victories in the last five years.”
However the four-time World Champion and the three-time Olympic Gold medalist, Pakistan has only won one Asian Games 2010 title during the last five years. Pakistan finished 12th in the last World Cup, seventh in the World Hockey League, seventh at London Olympics while eighth in Beijing and also 3rd in the recent Asia Cup 2013.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has accepted the resignation of the Asif Bajwa and has elected Rana Mujahid to replace Asif Bajwa until the fresh election for the new secretary. The newly elected secretary Rana Mujahid told media that he will do his best efforts to improve the current status of the national hockey team’s performance and a complete report will be prepared in next 10 days through the fact finding committee. A few more changes in the national team’s management are also expected from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) but after a few days.
