India play Nepal in search of semifinal berth SAFF Championships 2013

India is set to face Nepal in search of semi-final berth in SAFF Championship 2013. The India vs Nepal Saff Championship 2013 match is scheduled to be played on 5th September 2013. The match will kick-off on 3:15pm IST at Dasarath Rangasala Stadium, Kathmandu, Nepal. The defending champion India, looks to defeat the home team Nepal in order to secure its place in the semi-finals of SAFF Championship 2013.

Till now both teams have played two matches each and have won 1 match. India had started their SAFF Championship 2013 journey with a victory over Pakistan football team after a quite easy match and then were almost beaten in the second match by Bangladesh but luckily were able to draw it by scoring the equalizer in the last moments. Now both India and Nepal have 4 points with a goal difference of +1 and +2.

The equation is quite interesting at the moment. India can still qualify for the semi-finals even after losing to Nepal if Pakistan will defeat Bangladesh in their match at the same tie. On the other hand, if India lose their match with Nepal without scoring any goal and Bangladesh defeats Pakistan with atleast a two goals margin then the Indian teams hope for retaining the SAFF Championship title will come to an end.

The Indian coach Wim Koevermans expressed his thoughts about the upcoming match:

“Around the world, a packed stadium defines football. The atmosphere at Dasrath Stadium is just wonderful. Obviously the home support will be an extra help for Nepal but that’s how it goes,” Koevermans further added that, “We are ready. It will be a tough match and though there are a lot of equations involved, we are not getting into it.”

By analyzing the past record, Indian team will enter in the match as favorites because they have beaten Nepal 9 times out of 11 encounters between these two teams till now. But it will not be that easy to repeat the history as Nepal football team will have a strong home crowd sport.
