India has entered the SAFF Championship 2013 final with a 1-0 victory against Maldives. Now India will face Afghanistan in the final of the SAFF Championship 2013. It is the fifth straight time when the Indian football team has reached the final of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship.
It was a very tough fight for between them as both Maldives and India played their best game. The match seemed to result as a tie before the Indian player Arnab Mondal scored his first ever international goal in the 85th minute of the match giving his team a 1-0 lead over their opponent which stayed till the end of the match. This victory will definitely gave a huge boost to the confidence level of the Indian squad as the pulled-off this important victory without the presence of their skipper Sunil Chhetri.

There came many exciting moments during the match which got all the fans in the stadium onto the edges of their seats. Maldives had created a few very good opportunities throughout the match but failed to score every-time. On the other side Indian team also looked in a better form unlike how they played poorly against Nepal in their last group match.
The first half of the match ended without any goal from both sides even after some good attacks by the Maldives football team. Indian team also started to play a bit more aggressively in the second half and was finally able to score a match deciding goal in the 85th minute of the match. Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul had a very good game and stopped some very good attacks from the Maldives forward players.
Although, the match was full of excitement and both teams played wonderfully but the end of the game was very disappointing. After the final whistle the Maldives players Ali Umar attacked the referee of the match Idham Mohammad, which resulted as a red-card for Ali Umar. A group of Maldives football team players also assaulted one of the organizers of the event and the police personnel were had to be called to control the situation.
Now Indian football team will face Afghanistan in the final of South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship 2013 on 11th September,2013 at Dasarath Rangasala stadium. Afghanistan had also defeated Nepal with 1-0 in the first semi-final of the SAFF Championship 2013.
