Afghanistan stuns India to win SAFF Championship 2013 title. The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship final was played on 11th September 2013 between the defending champion India and the last edition’s runner-up Afghanistan. The Afghanistan team has finally got their revenge over India football team by defeating them in the SAFF championship 2013.

The Afghanistan defeated the two-time defending champion India with 2-0 at Dasarath Rangasala Stadium, Nepal. The first goal was scored by Mustafa Azadzoy in the ninth minute of the match which out Indian team under pressure in the early goings of the match and then Sandjar Ahmadi extended the lead by scoring the second goal in the 62nd minute. India had beaten Afghanistan in the last edition of the SAFF Championship final with 4-0 goals but at last the Afghan team took their revenge by defeating India 2-0.
The Afghanistan football team captain Yuosef Kargar said that:
“You can’t imagine how big this moment is for our country, our fans, our team and me, This was an important game for us, and not just because we wanted to take revenge. We have proved that we belong in the world of football. Our team has improved a lot over the last few years and I am sure we will get better in the years to come.”
The Indian team tried pretty hard to make their comeback in the game by playing attacking game but they were not able to score any goal. Surprisingly, the Indian coach Wim Koevermans kept the teams important striker Sunil Chettri till the first 60 minutes of the match.
The is the first SAFF Championship title for Afghanistan football team while the Indian team has already won SAFF Championship 6 time before this. When the Afghanistan team reached back home they were welcomed by thousand of peoples at the airport.
