Diego Maradona affirmed on Wednesday that he would like the idea of taking charge of the United Arab Emirates national team, who sacked their coach a few months ago after a dismal World Cup qualifying campaign.
Diego Maradona wants to coach the United Arab Emirates Team.Maradona, who has coached Al Wasl since last May, is rumoured to be one of the candidates to occupy the vacancy left by Slovenian coach Srecko Katanec, after the UAE suffered a 3-1 defeat to Lebanon in September. The national team went on to lose their following three matches when under an interim coach.
The legendary Argentine soccer genius didn’t declare whether the UAE FA made him an offer, but he indicated that if he were to receive an offer he would accept it “with pleasure.”
While Maradona reiterated that he is primarily thinking about what awaits for Al Wasl, the captain of the Argentine national team that lifted the 1986 World Cup in Mexico considers himself capable of assuming both positions simultaneously.
In Maradona’s last match in charge of Al Wasl his team fought out a 2-2 draw with Al Nasr. After eight rounds of the championship his team find themselves in sixth position with twelve points, eight points behind league leaders Al Ain.
Although Maradona wanted to stay on as the coach of Argentina, he was sacked at the conclusion of the 2010 World Cup as the two-time world champions were eliminated after being on the wrong end of a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Germany.
