Amir Khan (27-3, 19 KO’s) will be staging his next fight in the UK on April 27th against possibly former IBF lightweight champion Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KO’s). Khan’s team reportedly attempted to get catch weight fights against Vyacheslav Senchenko, Jessie Vargas, Juan Manuel Marquez, Humberto Soto and Tim Bradley, but none were interested.Khan will fight on British soil for first time in two years when he takes on Diaz.Amir Khan will fight in Britain for the first time in two years after it was confirmed the light-welterweight will face Julio Diaz in April.
The former world champion will meet the hard Mexican in Sheffield on 27 April in his first bout on English soil since his controversial win over Paul McCloskey in 2011.
Khan’s last fight was a one-sided stoppage of Carlos Molina in Los Angeles in December in his first outing since successive losses to Lamont Peterson & Danny Garcia.Khan’s brother Haroon & the London 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo will make their professional debuts on the under card in Sheffield.
The date was confirmed early today by promoters Golden Boy, Khan eschewing a news conference in the UK as he is already in camp in San Francisco with trainer Barry Hunter.Though Diaz is the likely opponent, Josesito Lopez, Huberto Soto and Vyacheslav Senchenko were also in the frame.
The event is part of American outfit Golden Boy Promotions’ try to cross the Atlantic & extend their territory.
The fight looks set to happen at Sheffield’s 12,000-seat Motorpoint Arena, with Khan’s sister Haroon & Team GB’s Olympic bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo making their professional debuts on the under card.
Khan bounced back from consecutive defeats with a 10th-round stoppage of Carlos Molina at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in December & his record sits at 27-3 (19 KOs).
His last fight on these shores saw him defeat Northern Irishman Paul McCloskey in Manchester in April 2011. The fight ended by technical decision in round six after McCloskey suffered a cut.
This is Diaz massive chance to get back in the thick of things. If they can knockout Khan then it could open some doors for bigger fights, & possibly even a rematch against Khan that would give him a bigger payday. Khan never tried to avenge his 1st round knockout loss to slugger Breidis Prescott, but I think they might be favorable to fighting Diaz again if they loses to him.

Khan vs Diaz Next Boxing Fight in 2013
Diaz was picked out because not of the welterweights that Golden Boy Promotions tried to get for the fight were willing to fight at a strength draining catch weight. Diaz obviously desires the payday & is willing to drain down for the fight.
Diaz has the process & the ring smarts to KO Khan, but he got to go after the Brit early in the fight to try & catch him with something massive. Khan always starts his fights fighting wildly without thinking, & Diaz ought to be able to take advantage of Khan over aggression.
Khan would much have no other choice but to fight him again because they cant keep moving on each time they gets beaten. Lamont Peterson & Danny Garcia both beat Khan, & Khan still hasn’t fought either of them to try & avenge his losses.
Khan will continue his quest to return to the world title picture hours before Danny Garcia – who emphatically defeated the Bolton boxer in July defends his WBC & WBA titles against Zab Judah in New York.
Also in action that evening is Khan compatriot Martin Murray, who looks for world championship glory of his own when they fights Sergio Martinez for Maravilla lineal & WBC middleweight straps in Argentina.
The Bolton fighter’s stock has dipped since those defeats, with ticket sales disappointing for his victory over Molina in Los angeles. They will now return to the United Kingdom in a bid to rebuild his reputation over here, with Sheffield’s 12,000-capacity Motorpoint Arena hosting his scrap with Diaz. The Mexican has a record of 40-7-1 (29 KO wins) without proving himself against elite opposition.
Khan signed his brother to his own promotional company five months ago. The event on April 27 will also house the professional debut of Olympic middleweight bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo, who signed with Golden Boy in January, and flyweight Haroon Khan, Amir’s younger brother.
