Tharindu Kaushal, a 19-year elderly offspinner, has been named in Sri Lanka’s squad for the Tests against New Zealand, while left-arm seamer Chanaka Welegedara returns to the side after missing Tests against Pakistan due to a shoulder injury.Swing bowler Nuwan Kulasekara retained his Check spot after a successful series against Pakistan, in which they was Sri Lanka’s best quick bowler, with eight wickets at 36.37. The top order was also unchanged, as Tharanga Paranavitana kept Lahiru Thirimanne out of the Check opener’s spot.Kaushal is in Sri Lanka’s squad for the continued ODIs but is yet to play & has not played any first-class or List A cricket.
Eranga had been overlooked for the Pakistan series after coming back from a nerve-related back injury earlier in the year, but had found a places in Sri Lanka’s World Twenty20 & limited-overs squads for the New Zealand series. They played Check against Australia last year, taking wickets in that match.
