LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee, headed by its new chairman Mohsin Hasan Khan, will meet here on Monday (today) to announce a 15-member squad for the Twenty20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies in April-May this year.
The selection committee has already named 30 players in the preliminary squad but will finalise the final 15 after taking into consideration the performance of players in the National Twenty20 Cup that concluded on Sunday in Karachi.
No big surprises are expected in the squad as the selectors have already omitted fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar. Interestingly, the omission comes at a time when Shoaib looked lean while playing one match in the National Twenyt20 Cup.
Shoaib said Saturday that he was disappointed at his omission from the preliminary squad and made the point that in the past the selectors had changed players in the preliminary squad after sending it to the ICC giving the example of Abdul Razzaq being drafted into the Pakistan team at the last moment in the last Twenty20 World Cup in England.
But a member of the national selection committee said there were not chances of the 30 being changed as no player outside the preliminary squad had given any outstanding performances in the National Twenty20 Cup. “I don’t see any changes being made and we will select the final 15 from these same 30 players,” he added.
