The experienced and one of the top fast bowlers in the world Umar Gul is hopeful about making his return against South Africa. Pakistan is set for a series against SA at United Arab Emirates (UAE) this October and their are pretty good chances that Pakistan team selectors will include its most experienced bowler, Umar Gul in the squad. Umar Gul is the top Twenty20 International bowler at the moment with 74 wickets in 52 matches.
“Umar Gul Hopefully eyes October return against SA”
Umar Gul suffered a knee injury during the South Africa tour and had to undergo a knee surgery in Australia last in the month of May. Due to this injury Umar Gul has missed the ICC Champions Trophy and the tours to West Indies and Zimbabwe this year. This injury has not only caused Umar Gul to stay out of International cricket almost 6 months but Pakistan team has also suffered many losses due to the absence of their striking bowler.
Umar Gul has been practicing at National Cricket Academy in Lahore. While talking to media, Umar Gul said, “Thank God, everything appears to be settling down. The knee is fine with no signs of ill-effects from the surgery I had a few months ago. Over the past 15 days, I have started bowling in the nets as well,”
In the absence of Umar Gul, Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan are now leading the bowling attack for Pakistan but according to Umar Gul there is still a need of senior player who can guide the youngsters. Pakistan recently loss to Zimbabwe in second Test which has bought the Pakistan team under alot of criticism so a better performance against South Africa is necessary for the team.
Umar Gul is hopeful that he is fit and will make his return in the team in the series against SA but we will have to wait for the decision of the team selection committee. The selectors may not like to take any chances about Umar Gul and give him more rest to recover from the surgery.
