The Bangladesh cricket team has beaten New Zealand by 43 runs in the first One Day International (ODI). The Bangladesh fast bowler, Rubel Hossain became the hero of the day by taking 6 wickets for just 26 runs which includes one hat trick. Rubel Hossain has now become the 3rd Bangladesh player to take a hat trick in a ODI match.
While batting first, the Bangladesh cricket team seemed to be in trouble when after losing their first three wickets in the early goings of the match. Bangladesh were 3 for 25 runs when the captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Naeem Islam built a 154 runs partnership to take their team to a strong position. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 90 runs off 144 balls while Naeem Islam scored 84 runs off 166 balls. Even after losing quick wickets in the beginning of the match, Bangladesh team ended their innings at 265 runs all out in 49.5 overs.
While chasing this 265 runs target, New Zealand team was 82 runs for 3 wickets after 20 overs when rain delayed the match for almost two hours. The target was reduced to 206 runs in 20 overs under the Duckworth Lewis method but that was simply not a good day for New Zealand team. When the play resumed after the rain, the Bangladesh fast bowler Rubel single-handedly turned the game into his teams favor.
Rubel took 6 wickets in just 5.5 overs for 26 runs which also included an hat trick. At the end the visitors were all out at 162 runs in 29.5 overs giving Bangladesh a victory by 43 runs. Rubel Hossain was given the award of man of the match for his outstanding bowling and Bangladesh now lead the 3 ODI matches series by 1-0.
