Virender Sehwag dropped from Indian Test team against Australia.India have dropped veteran opener Virender Sehwag for the two remaining Tests of their series with Australia.Skipper Mahendra Dhoni leads an otherwise unchanged 14-man squad, with Ajinkya Rahane & Shikhar Dhawan battling to take Sehwag’s place.The hard-hitting 34-year-old has scored zero,, 39 & six in his last Check innings.The squad was trimmed to 14 with the selectors deciding against picking a replacement for Sehwag, who has scored 27 runs in his innings in the coursework of the continued series.India lead the four-match series 2-0 after their innings victory in Hyderabad on Tuesday. As expected, out of form opener Virender Sehwag failed to retain his place in the Indian Check team for the remaining Tests against Australia.Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who has also been struggling to regain his peak form, was, however, retained in the squad announced by BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale.
Although India registered commanding victories in the first Tests, the opening partnerships between Sehwag & Vijay could produce only 11, 16 & 17 runs.In the absence of Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan could receive a chance to open the innings with Murali Vijay, who cemented his place with a gritty hundred in the second Check in Hyderabad, which India won by an innings & 135 runs.They was unable to score even a half-century in home Tests against New Zealand. In the work of India’s last abroad tour, in Australia, Sehwag scored 198 runs in eight innings. While they scored a century in the first Check against England in November, they failed to pass 50 in the remainder of that series, & his fielding also came under criticism.

Sehwag had failed to fire in consecutive Tests after getting a hundred in the opening game of the home series against England at Ahmedabad in November-December last year.His regular opening partner Gautam Gambhir was dropped for the Australia series, but Sehwag’s opening stands with Gambhir’s replacement Murali Vijay in the first Tests were worth 11, 16 & 17.Vijay will now be partnered by either Rahane & Dhawan, who are uncapped at Check level, although both have appeared for India in one-day & Twenty20 internationals.Right-hander Rahane, 24, from Mumbai, was in the Check squad for the series against England in November & December, often appearing as a substitute fielder, while Dhawan, 27, is a Delhi-born left-hander.
The third Check starts in Mohali on 14 March, with the fourth in Delhi eight days later.
