England won by 6 runs From South Africa | England Beat South Africa by 6 Runs

England clinched a dramatic win over South Africa by 6 runs in their World Cup Group B clash at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

Though England failed with the bat, yet the bowlers came to the party to collapse the South African batting for only 165 runs.

Earlier, fine bowling by spinners Robin Peterson (3/22) and Imran Tahir (4/38) helped South Africa restrict England to 171 runs.

England batsmen meekly surrendered against some fine bowling by Proteas spinners as their innings were bundled up at 171 with 4.2 overs remaining.

Leggie Imran Tahir’s double-strike in the 44th over broke England’s back as they stuttered to 161 for 9. Tahir finished the England innings by dismissing Graeme Swann.

Tahir first got Michael Yardy and then scalped Stuart Broad to pick up his third wicket.

England lost Bopara and Tim Bresnan in quick succession as England continued to struggle against Proteas bowling attack.

Dale Steyn got rid of Bresnan to reduce England to 149 for 7 in 40.1 overs. Bopara scored a patient 87-ball half-century before falling to Morkel’s delivery.

Finally the fast bowler struck for South Africa as Morne Morkel scalped wicketkeeper batsman Matt Prior cheaply. England were 134 for 5 in 36 overs.

Jonathon Trott couldn’t pursue his fighting knock further as he fell soon after scoring fifty against South Africa.

Jonathan Trott and Ravi Bopara resurrected England, after losing three top-order batsmen inside 15 runs, against South Africa.

The duo stitched crucial 99-run partnership for the fourth wicket as England recovered to 114/4 from 15/3 at one stage. By Times of India
