The West Indies cricket board has officially announced the schedule for Caribbean Premier T20 League 2013. According to the announced schedule by the board the Caribbean Premier T20 League 2013 will start on 30th July,2013 and will continue till 24th August,2013.
It was expected hat this league will attract a number of famous International cricketers towards it like Indian Premier League (IPL) but that’s just not has been the case. The West Indies board wanted to give the local players a chance to show their talent so they restricted that each team can only have a limited number of International players in its squad.
The good news is that 5 players from Pakistan national team are taking part in this tournament but on the other hand no player from Indian team has been invited to join this event. The reason of not joining the league by Indian Players is not clear at the moment. The players who are playing from Pakistan team are Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik will play for Barbados Tridents, Mohammad Hafeez for Guyana Amazon Warriors, Ahmed Shehzad and Misbah-ul-Haq for St. Lucia Zouks.
Misbah-ul-Haq has recently been signed by St Lucia Zouks as a replacement for Luke Pomersbach. Pomersbach had to leave the tournament due to an injury and Misbah-ul-Haq will join the team after getting a Man-of-the-Series awards in recent One Day International series against West Indies. He is going to be a very good edition according to Matthew Maynard, the Zouks assistant coach. Misbah will join Darren SAMMY, Herschelle Gibbs and Albie morkel in the ST Lucia Zouks.
Muhammad Hafeez is the current T20 captain for the Pakistani team and is going to play for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. Although he has not been performing well in recent matches but still Pakistan was able to defeat West Indies in 2 T20Is recently. Muhammad Hafeez will be joined by Ramnaresh Sarwan, Martin Guptill and James Franklin in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team.
Umar Akmal is the third Pakistani player to join Caribbean Premier League. Umar Akmal has been in superb performance in recent matches where he played his each innings according to the need of situation. He is also serving as a wicket-keeper these days at the place of his elder brother Kamran Akmal. Umar Akmal will play for Barbados Tridents under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard.
The last player to join the league is Shoaib Malik who will also play for Barbados Tridents. Although Malik was not selected for the squad for West Indies series but still he is a capable batsman and a spin bowler. This tournament will also help in boosting up his confidence and regaining his position in the Pakistan national squad.
Another Pakistani player Shahid Afridi was expected to play in Caribbean Premier League for St Lucia but then turned down the offer due to some issue related to payments. The reason is that initially Afridi was offered a higher amount of money for playing in Caribbean League but then it was reduced to a level which was not acceptable for Shahid Afridi. Ahmed Shehzad is also expected to join the league after signing the contract with a team.
