Faisalabad Wolves lost 1st qualifier match in CLT20 2013

Faisalabad Wolves lost their 1st qualifier match of the CLT20 2013. In the first match of Champions League T20 2013 qualifying stage, Faisalabad Wolves from Pakistan were quite easily defeated by New Zealand team Otago Volts. Otago Volts defeated Faisalabad Wolves by 8 wickets and 13 balls remaining.

The Faisalabad Wolves team captain Misbah-ul-Haq won the toss and elected to bat first. Faisalabad Wolves had a very poor start after losing their both openers at just 12 runs. Then Khurram Shehzad tried to stabilize the innings but the wickets kept falling after short intervals. The captain Misbah-ul-Haq was the highest scorer for the Faisalabad Wolves with 46 runs. Wolves were able to score just 139 runs in 20 overs after losing 8 wickets. This was a very unfortunate day for the Wolves as their only two players, Khurram Shehzad and Misbah-ul-Haq were able to score more than 15 runs.

While chasing this target of 139 runs Otago Volts innings also seemed to be in trouble when they lost their opener Neil Broom at the second ball of the very first over of the innings. But then the captain of the Volts, Bredon McCullum came out to bat and played an unbeaten innings of 83 runs which resulted to be a match winning innings. The second opener Hamish Rutherford and middle order batsman Derek de Boorder also scored 25 and 30 runs respectively. Otago Volts were able to achieve the 140 runs target in 17.5 overs after losing just 2 wickets. Even the world’s top spin bowler Saeed Ajmal was able to take just 1 wicket and failed to stop Otago’s from winning the opening match of the Champions League T20 2013 qualifying stage.

Brendon McCullum was awarded Man of the Match for his superb innings of unbeaten 83 runs. Now in the second qualifying matches, Otago Volts will face Kandurat Maroons while Faisalabad Wolves will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad.
