The new star opening batsman from the Indian national team Shikhar Dhawan will now lead the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) 2013. The Sunrisers Hyderabad team was playing under the captaincy of Sri Lankan classic batsman Kumar Sangakare, but this year he has decided to play for his home side Kandurata Maroons. So now the responsibility to lead the team in the Champions League T20 has been given to Shikhar Dhawan.
“Dhawan to lead Sunrisers in CLT20 2013”
Dhawan has been playing in a outstanding form after scoring 187 runs against Australia in the Test match in Mohali. Even after missing the first seven matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, Dhawan still managed to end the tournament as the leading run scorer for Sunrisers Hyderabad with 311 runs. The Sunrisers will play their first qualifying match of the tournament against Kandurata Maroons on 17th September.
Dhawan has been the captain of the Delhi in Past and is looking pretty confident to take-on this role. Dhawan said that it is an honour for him to lead a team that has a number of famous International players in it. About the selection of Dhawan as the new captain, the head coach of sunrisers Tom Moody said:
“Having stand out performances in the Indian team over the recent past, Shikhar has dominated as a batsman and has been more than consistent. Dhawan is a complete package as a player and that’s why we have decided to elevate him and make him our new captain.”
Shikhar Dhawan emerged as a complete batsman on the International level in ICC Champions Trophy 2013 where he won the Man of the Series award. Due to his consistent performance, Dhawan has been given preference to be the captain of the side even after the availability of many more experienced players in the side like Cameron White, Darren Sammy and Dale Steyn.
