The South Africa Team Squad for Sri Lanka Tour 2013 has been announced. The South African team is scheduled to play five One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. The Series will start from 20 July, 2013 and will end on 6 August.
The Proteas are going for this tour under the supervision of their new coach Russell Domingo. Adrian Birrel has been given the responsibility of assistant coach to Domingo, Claude Henderson will be the specialist spin bowling coach and Allan Donald has been retained as the bowling coach.
The star South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has not been included in the squad as he still needs a three week rest for recovering from the side-strain and groin injury in Champions Trophy. South African selection announcer Andrew Hudson told reporters in Johannesburg that:
“We are resting Steyn as we have a very important and crowded Test season ahead. We want to be absolutely certain that Dale, as the leader of our attack, is properly rested and fit.”
Another important player Graeme Smith has also not been included in the squad due to his recovery process from the surgery. Jacques Kallis will also not be the part of the team. He has not played even a single One Day International (ODI) since last 17 months including the recent Champions Trophy due to some personal reasons. But the good news for the South African team is that their other experienced fast bowler Morne Morkel has made his comeback in the squad.
